- Pre poo
Pre poo simply means treatment before shampooing. It is mostly done with an oil or combination of oils. This stage is where you separate knots and finger detangle your hair. The oils usually provide slip that makes the detangling process easier.
- Shampoo
This is the point where you clean your scalp and hair. For at home washing, it is best to either wash your hair in section i.e washing section by section, or you can also wash your hair in twists. Washing section by section or in twist help to give you better access to your scalp and prevents excessive knots and tangles.
- Condition/ deep condition
A moisturizing conditioner or deep conditioner help to replace all lost moisture into the hair. This is the best time to use a tool such as comb or brush to properly detangle your natural hair. Depending on what product you use, you can leave the conditioner in your hair for from 15 – 30 mins to deeply penetrate and work its magic before rinsing it out.
- Moisturize and seal
This is the last stage / step of your wash day routine. At this point you apply your leave in, cream and oil to help keep in the moisture for longer. You can keep your hair in twist or braids and take a break, giving the hair some time to air dry a bit before moisturizing. Allowing the hair to air dry a bit before moisturizing is a helpful step for people with low porosity hair because their hair general take very long to dry especially when products are added.
