Fenugreek is a two in one treatment for your hair. It deals with the dandruff and strengthens your hair while the Aloe vera help to reduce the itchy feel and moisturizes your hair.

    Steps
    1. Soak 1-2 tbsp. of fenugreek seeds in half a cup of hot water overnight or 24 hours till the water becomes slippery.
    2. Drain the water from the seed
    3. Add 2-3 tbsp. of Aloe vera gel to the fenugreek water
    4. Pour the mixture in your spray bottle and use.

This mixture can be used on wash day as a final rinse or as a refresher spray during the week. Always massage the mixture into your scalp for 2- 3 minutes. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to a week or freeze for up to one month.

    Lemon/ lime rinse

Lemons contain antiseptic properties, which is why they are a great home remedy for itchy and dry scalp. The acid in Lemon juice banishes unwanted dandruff causing bacteria and fungus. Lime functions like lemon. Being rich in citric acid, lime combats oily build-ups to prevent dandruff and leaves hair glowing.

    Steps
    1. Wash 3-5 limes / lemons and squeeze out their juice
    2. Sieve the juice to remove particles
     3. Dilute the juice with a little water and apply to your scalp.

This juice is best used as a final rinse on washday. Always massage into your scalp for 2-3 minutes.

    Rosemary and Aloe Vera

Rosemary conditions your hair and makes it shiny and boost healthy hair growth. Rosemary is also very effective in relieving itchy, dry scalp and dandruff. In case you are wonder, YES it is the rosemary spice you know and use for cooking. Aloe vera has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties which are also effective for treating dandruff.
    Steps

    2. Strain and pour the rosemary water into your preferred container.
    3. Add Aloe vera gel and apply

The rosemary Aloe Vera rinse/ spray can be used as a final rinse on washday and can be used as your mid week scalp spray. It can even be used on protective styles like braids (spray a little on your scalp and allow it air dry). Always massage into your scalp for 2 – 3 minutes. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 10days or freeze for up to a month.

There are several things that you can do manage your dandruff issues plus moisturize and add shine to your hair. Three of the easy homemade treatment have been discussed above. You can also add your favorite oils or essential oils to the different mixes above for added benefits. If dandruff is worsening (spreading, causing hair loss, increasing redness, painful, or infected) despite proper care and hair hygiene, call a dermatologist.
